Guitar Hero Live

Customer problem

Freestyle Games (FSG) reinvented the old classic, removing the animated characters that featured heavily in the previous editions. 

We created 2 areas in the game. GH Live and GHTV. 

In Live, you were the lead guitarist in a band, you played your set for different music genres with real actors in either the UK (Sounddial) or in the US (Rock the Block) festivals. In the first-person mode, you interacted with your band members and the crowd. If you missed notes, you would be glared at and told to pick up, and if you continued, the audience would start to boo you and throw things at you. My team and I created everything from the Games Logo and branding, Festival Logos, Stadium Logos, Band Logos, Band merchandise. As well as the UX and UI of the game and the HUD.

GHTV was designed to be like MTV in its heyday (80’s/90’s). We wanted you to be able to watch your favourite band videos, and when you felt the urge, pick your guitar up and play along with them. We created all the UI and video stings. The challenge didn’t stop there as we researched how players would navigate the UI using the guitar; to ensure the interface was as simple and intuitive as possible.
